BMW was Founded in Bavaria in 1928

BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH and is a famous German car company. It was originally a manufacturer of airplane engines before renaming itself. The company started in 1916, when Franz Joseph Popp, Karl Rapp and Camillo Castiglioni formed the Bayerische Motoren Werke, a joint venture between three companies. The first product they made was an aircraft engine, called the BMW Illa. This engine would become one of the company’s most iconic and successful vehicles. BMW would eventually grow into a large automotive manufacturer, producing trucks, motorcycles, and farm equipment, as well as aircraft engines.

Its Entry into the Sport-Utility-Vehicle Market

The upcoming BMW 7 Series SUV will compete against Mercedes-Benz’s GLS, Audi Q7, Lincoln Navigator, and Infiniti QX80. However, the company’s founders, Herbert Quandt and Harald Benz, decided to invest heavily in the company and saved it from being bought out by Daimler-Benz. BMW remained in business and eventually became the world’s largest automaker.

Today, the BMW X5 is a leading example of a sport-utility-vehicle. It has five seating positions and excellent off-road capabilities, and is based on the company’s 5 series sedan. The X5 features four-wheel independent suspension, a premium sound system, and a full-on-board computer. The company’s SAV lineup is expected to grow in the near future.
